These are our first spy shots of the 3rd-generation Rogue, which is most likely to debut next year as a 2021 model. The prototype was spied on the streets of Farmington Hills, Michigan, using a great deal of camouflage.

Some may say that the style is being obscured by this thick wrap layer. However, we believe it’s easy to construct, especially as the style is less picky than the current model. The total shape is boxy, rarely disrupted by creases. The headlights sit high up and might be split between an LED brow wedged up versus the hood and the main beams below.

The primary grille is an inverted trapeze, something that’s currently been previewed by the 2018 Xmotion Concept. The resemblance is even more powerful at the back, where we see the same taillights sitting next to the shoulder line and a big Land Rover-like trunk lid. It’s a bit like a Japanese boxcar if you consider; a bit Scion.

The European or Korean models will have either a 1.7 or a 2-liter diesel, plus a compressed gas-enabled 2.5-liter. And even though Nissan likes CVTs, the 1.7-liter must be matched to a DCT.
